TH603: Renewing the Church:

The way the Church understandings itself and its mission has varied over the centuries and

reflects the historical context of the time. This course looks at the shift in the Catholic Church’s

self-understanding that occurred with the Second Vatican Council. Beginning with The Dogmatic

Constitution on the Church (Lumen gentium) and related writings, students will consider how the

Church has responded to the ongoing call to renew itself.

TH501: What Catholics Believe

Catholics hold certain beliefs which shape the way they think about themselves, God, other

people and the world. Those beliefs are found in Scripture and Tradition, celebrated in the

Liturgy, articulated by the Church teaching authority and witnessed to in the lives of Christians.

This course explores the concepts and beliefs that have shaped the Catholic tradition and so

provide a background to understanding Catholic identity

Start Date: 26 th October 2018, starting at 9.00am.
